Abstract
OBJECTIVES: To study refractive status and lens thickness as assessed by A scan before & after glycemic control.
METHOD: A prospective observational study of 50 patients were undertaken. FBS, PPBS, best corrected visual acuity, refractive status and lens thickness by A scan was measured before and 1 month and 3 month after glycemic control.
RESULTS: Correlation between glycemic status and refractive status was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05).Lens thickness does not show significant correlation with glycemic status. CONCLUSIONS: Blood sugar level control has importance in refractive status. Myopic changes are seen in patients with hyperglycemia and at 1 month and 3 month of sugar control there is shift towards hyperopia. Hence glasses must be prescribed to patient after glycemic control. Lens thickness does not have relationship with blood sugar level.
