Abstract

Aim:To compare duration of surgery,post operative complications and graft stability between fibrin glue and vicryl suture for fixing conjunctival autograft after primary pterygium excision.Method:This prospective comparative study was conducted between December 2017 to July 2019 in a tertiary centre.Total 87 patients underwent primary pterygium excision.Group A(42 patients) in whom fibrin glue was used and group B(45 patients) where 8-0 vicryl suture was used.Results:Majority of patients were in the age group 31-50 years(58.61%).Mean duration of surgery in group A was 14.5 minutes and group B was 26 minutes.Group A had significantly lesser postoperative discomfort and inflammation compared to group B.Conjunctival grafts in both the groups were stable at Day 1, week 1, 1st & 3rd months postoperatively.Conclusion:Fibrin glue takes less time and post operative complications are also less compared to vicryl suture.Graft is equally stable in both groups.Fibrin glue is found to be safe.
