Abstract
Purpose: To study the pattern of uveitis at a tertiary care hospital in Eastern India.
Methods: This is a prospective study of new cases of uveitis attending our hospital from September 1, 2016 to August 31, 2019. Demographic profile, clinical features and etiological diagnosis were evaluated.
Results: Among 334 patients, females were predominant (57.2% vs 42.8%; P < 0.05). The mean age was 32.3 ± 21.18 years. Uveitis was mostly unilateral and nongranulomatous. A specific etiology was identified in 55.4% cases. Anterior uveitis was the commonest form (53%), followed by posterior uveitis (24.55%), panuveitis (16.17%), and intermediate uveitis (6.28%). Anterior uveitis was mostly idiopathic. The commonest cause of posterior uveitis and panuveitis were toxoplasmosis and Behçet’s disease respectively. Conclusion: Anterior uveitis was the commonest form and Behçet’s disease, seronegative spondyloarthropathy, presumed tuberculosis, toxoplasmosis were the leading causes of uveitis.
