Abstract
Method: Case report evaluating the anterior corneal astigmatism pre and post PTK(Phototherapeutic keratectomy) procedure followed by cataract surgery.
Results: A 62year old male patient with decreased vision due to cataract and non-calcific band shaped keratopathy had irregular astigmatism of 3.3 D. K1/K2 was 40.4/43.7D, IOL power calculated by www.eyecals.com was 18.5 D. PTK was done by excimer laser with VISX STAR. Post PTK, the K1/K2 was 40.18/40.56 and IOL power was 22D using IOL Master 700. Post cataract surgery the patient gained BCVA 20/20 on 6 month follow up.
Conclusion: PTK proved beneficial in correcting the irregular astigmatism due to anterior corneal degenerations/dystrophies and helped calculate accurate IOL power to give satisfactory BCVA post cataract surgery.
