Abstract
Purpose
To study prevalence, risk factors & management in patients with (KC) < 15 yrs. Methods Cross-sectional study. Patients with <15 yrs, tomographic diagnosis of KC (Sirius topography) using Amsler-Krumeich gradin included, Sept 2015-19. Family history, allergic conjunctivitis, BCVA, co-morbidities & various KC treatment evaluated. Results 80 eyes included. M:F::4:1. M/c 13 yrs. None had family history of KC. Stage I KC:30 eyes, stage II:26, stage III:17, stage IV:7 . 48 eyes(60%) had allergic conjunctivitis. Acute hydrops in 2(2.5%). 40(50%) treated by cross-linking, 6(7.5%) lamellar keratoplasty and 2(2.5%) desemetopexy,18(22.5%) RGP lens, 4(5%) rose-K lens. Conclusions Our findings demonstrated a higher percentage of allergic conjunctivitis in children with KC (60%). Great suspicion is required to detect KC in Down syndrome kids. Understanding of such predisposing risk factors may help develop early management strategies to delay or prevent progression of this disease.
