Abstract

PURPOSE- To compare the efficacy between a thermoelectric heating device(EVOLVE Eye Mask,His Eyeness Ophthalmics) and conventional treatment(johnson and johnson baby shampoo eyelid scrubs) in patients with meibomian gland dysfunction.

MATERIALS & METHODS- A prospective and comparative study was done in 50 patients(100 eyes). Patients were divided into 2 groups. Group I (n=25):patients received 2 sessions with EVOLVE Eye Mask and Group II (n=25): control with baby shampoo. Ocular examination was done of all 25 patients, 3 and 4 weeks post treatment includes slit lamp examination with fluorescein staining for TBUT (Tear Break Up Time) and also for Meibomian gland assessment and Schirmer’s test was done.

CONCLUSION- Apparently EVOLVE Eye Mask was seems to be superior for the improvement of signs and symptoms associated with MGD and it improves obstructive MGD due to greater gland expressibility
