Abstract
A prospective, non-comparative, interventional study was conducted, 60 eyes of 47 patients with cataract were scheduled for implantation of a diffractive multifocal IOL. Patient’s degree of spectacle independence, distant visual acuity, near visual acuity, intermediate visual acuity, contrast sensitivity & slit lamp examination was done post oper atively on day 1 , 1 week, 6 weeks & 3 months. Post op 88.33% patients have distant visual acuity & near visual acuity in the range of 6/6-6/9 & N.6-N.9 respectively. 100% of patients had intermediate visual acuity in the range of 20/20 – 20/40,62% of the patients have contrast sensitivity of >1.8 log units,95% patients were within 1.00 D of target refraction. Only 8% patients complained of glares & haloes by the end of 3 months. Thus multifocal IOLs are good options to correct pseudophakic presbyopia as they achieve spectacle independence in the majority of the cases with high levels of patient satisfaction.
