Abstract
Clinical features and management of 2 cases is presented. Case 1 was a 1 week old baby with bilateral congenital floppy eyelid syndrome. The palpebral aperture was obscured at all times. The everted conjunctiva was chemosed. Medical treatment and waiting for 3 weeks failed to improve the eversion. Surgery was undertaken in the 4th week of life. Bilateral resection of hypertrophied conjunctiva with suturing of cut conjunctiva and temporary tarsorapphy was done. Postoperatively the baby had normal palpebral fissures.Case 2 was a 4 month old baby with a medically treated corneal ulcer. She had total entropion of the upper lid. Examination under GA revealed a horizontal tarsal kink which was corrected by horizontal tarsotomy and everting sutures. Postoperatively, entropion was corrected though vision was compromised by a corneal opacity. The above 2 cases underscore the importance of early recognition and referral by Pediatricians & Ophthalmologists to prevent visual loss in infants.
