Abstract
Aim: To highlight the possibilities that should be thought of while managing anterior uveitis in HIV.
Methods : Three patients of HIV that presented to us with Anterior Uveitis, underwent investigations ,detailed medical history revealed recent CD4 count increase. Medical records unfolded all patients were on Rifabutin for Mycobacterium Avium Complex Infection (MAC).
Discussion and Results:
Uveitis in cases due to increased immunocompetence is termed as Immune recovery Uveitis (IRU). Rifabutin-associated ocular inflammation is common in HIV patients. Our cases were on HAART and Rifabutin ,all had anterior uveitis. Though complete resolution in AC inflammation occurred dramatically on discontinuation of Rifabutin along with steroid and cycloplegic medications, it is difficult to rule out IRU as two had associated improvement of CD4 count.
Conclusion
High index of suspicion towards both IRU and Rifabuten induced uveitis should be kept in mind while treating anterior uveitis in HIV.
