Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate outcome in patients with pOSSN and assess risk factors for recurrence. Methods: Retrospective interventional study of 138 eyes of 136 patients over 13y. Results: pOSSN constituted 136/626 (21.7%) of all OSSN. Mean age 46.1±17.8y, unilateral 128, xeroderma pigmentosa(XP) 10, HIV 24. Primary treatment was topical chemotherapy(TC) alone(6); excision biopsy with clear margins with edge cryotherapy(118), alcohol keratoepitheliectomy(105), adjuvant TC(9); extended enucleation(7) and exenteration(3). Histopathology- invasive OSSN 53(41%), dysplasia/CIN 76(59%). At median follow up of 6(6-84)m, 10(7.2%) had recurrence, resolved with repeat excision(4), TC(2), cryotherapy(2), enucleation(1), exenteration(1). Recurrence correlated(p<0.05) with XP, bilaterality, interpalpebral location, nodularity, TNM>TIS. Conclusion: pOSSN is common in Asian Indians and has gratifying success with conventional surgery and TC. Patients with risk factors for recurrence need closer follow-up.
