Abstract
Purpose: Diseases of eyelid margins and lashes present unique challenges in their management because of close proximity to the eyeball. Quite often it requires close collaboration between the managing dermatologist and ophthalmologist to prevent any untoward adverse effect on the delicate ocular structures.
Methods: We present a series of unusual cases involving eyelid margins by atypical pathogens including Phthiriasis palpebrum, Beetle dermatitis, Demodex blepharitis, tick blepharitis, and ophthalmomyasis and discuss their management.
Results: Diagnosis for these entities was established and confirmed by using various laboratory techniques of routine microscopy, histopathology, and genetic analyses in addition to the routine clinical examination.
Conclusions: Eyelid infestations may be associated with a variety of ocular signs and symptoms. Ophthalmologists must be aware of these unusual entities for their appropriate management.
