Abstract
Aim: To analyse the intermediate results of a prospective study of the role of overminus glasses in IDS. Methods:: Overminus glasses (-1.0 to -2D) are prescribed for 59 children with IDS between 3 and 12 years and success was evaluated by New Castle Score (NCS) . Subjects are grouped according to the score into 3 subgroups (1st 0-2, 2nd 3-5, 3rd >5). Stereo acuity was done for distance and near. Results: 82.57% showed an overall reduction in the NCS score with 27.21% being orthotropic. 23.86% even though didn’t show any improvement, no worsening noted. Reduction in the NCS score was seen in all the groups. Sgnificant reduction in the angle of deviation noted from 25 PD to 10 PD with significant improvement in stereo acuity for distance as well as near. Conclusion: Overminus glasses is an effective non-surgical method for control of IDS ,maintaining binocularity.
