Abstract
This is a retrospective analysis of presenting features and management options of neovascular glaucoma(NVG).Of the records retrieved, 60 had NVG.75% were unilateral and aged 55-60 years.Proliferative diabetic retinopathy(62.5%) was the most common primary etiology, followed by central retinal vein occlusion (25%).Majority had visual acuity of counting fingers or worse, of which 68.6% either maintained the same acuity(45.8%) or worsened(33.3%).Of those eyes which worsened, 50% progressed to blindness.Intraocular pressure (IOP) at presentation was on an average 40-50 mm Hg, with mean of 30.5 mm Hg.Majority of these eyes had closed angles.Intervention was mainly medical, with mean of 3.5 antiglaucoma medications per eye treated. Only 16.7% underwent trabeculectomy.Late stage of presentation coupled with hostile nature of NVG, limit efficacy of available options, thus impacting long-term visual and IOP outcomes in these patients.Early recognition of risk factors is hence crucial.
