Abstract
Aim-To study the association of Translamina cribrosa pressure difference (TLCPD) and ocular perfusion pressure (OPP) in glaucoma.
Method-Case control study on 94 glaucomatous eyes and 94 eyes of age and gender matched non-glaucoma patients was conducted over 1 year. Detailed systemic and ophthalmic history noted with complete ophthalmological evaluation. CSF pressure was calculated using a predevised formula by Xee et al using Diastolic BP, age and BMI. TLCPD was the difference between IOP and CSFP. OPP was calculated from a predetermined formula using DBP, pulse pressure and IOP.
Results- Among cases, 70 eyes (74.5%) had OAG and 24 eyes (25.5%) had ACG. DBP(p=0.005), TLCPD (p=0.005) and pulse pressure (p=0.025)were significantly higher in glaucomatous eyes compared to controls. OPP showed no significant difference. Vision loss was only mild.
Conclusion- Glaucoma is a silent thief of vision. Thus, DBP and TLCPD can be measured at community level and advice for early glaucoma screening.
