Abstract
Congenital combined imbrication of eyelids syndrome (CIES) is an extremely rare condition characterised by malposition of eyelids, which tends to be benign and self limiting. It consists of congenital imbrication of eyelids associated with congenital floppy eyelid syndrome (CFES). We report a case of this syndrome in a newborn male baby who was born through a full term normal vaginal delivery. The baby was born with bilateral swollen and erythematous eyelids which were closed shut and were easily everted on minimal effort at opening the eyes. There was marked laxity of the lateral canthal tendons. The palpebral conjunctiva was markedly congested. The globes were otherwise normal. There was no systemic syndromic association. Conjunctival swabs were sent for microbiological analysis. The case was conservatively managed and spontaneously resolved gradually over a period of time. To our knowledge, this is the seventh case of CIES reported worldwide.
