Abstract
Dexamethasone implant is now being used in various cases raging from refractory and naive DME and RVOs as well as post Operative CME. STUDY:Retrospective study of 30 eyes with macular edema(CMT> 300microns) without having glaucoma or being a glaucoma suspect or history of steroid responder and not recieved any injection in last 3 months was done. 10 eyes having post-op CME, 12 havingDME, 4 having RVO and 4 having intermediate uveitis with CME were given the implant.Vision improvement at 3 months(.795 to .335) and cetral macular thickness(458.5 to 274 microns) was statistically significant. 20% had > 5 mm IOP rise.Visual gain was maintained in most upto 6 months.10% needed another injection due to increased CMT or visual drop and 3 patients needed adjuvant focal laser.cataract progression noted in 2/10 eyes.conclusion: use of dexamethasone implant is safe and effective for treating macular edema and IOP rise can be controlled by topical and oral medications.
