Abstract
Purpose – To study intraocular pressure(IOP) changes post silicon oil removal(SOR)
Methods – Retrospective review of 100 eyes operated for retinal detachment with silicon oil tamponade and subsequent SOR done were included. Disc changes, IOP, angle changes pre and post operative were analysed.
Results – 34 out of 100 eyes had raised IOP with silicon oil in-situ. Post SOR 19 patients continued to have raised IOP so they were treated with anti glaucoma medications, 2 eyes were operated for trabeculectomy, 1 needed glaucoma drainage device and 2 patients required trans-scleral cyclo-photocoagulation. No intra and post operative complications were noted.
Conclusion – Timely done silicon oil removal, decrease IOP and incidence of glaucoma post retinal detachment surgery, still substantial number of patients need IOP control measures and follow up.
