Abstract
AIM AND OBJECTIVE- To study the biomechanical properties of cornea in VKC patients and to compare with age matched control. METHOD- ORA measurments were performed on both eyes of 42 patients with VKC( group 1) and 21 healthy children who served as control( group 2). Corneal hysteresis(CH), corneal resistance factor(CRF) were recorded with ORA in one year duration.RESULTS: Mean age of patients with VKC and control groups were 4 to12 years for both groups I and II . Mean (± SD) of the CH and CRF readings were 10.2 ± 1.6 versus 10.8± 1.6 (p > 0.05) and 9.3 ± 1.7 versus 10.9 ± 1.7 mmHg (p < 0.05), in groups I and II respectively. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences for CRF between the study groups. CONCLUSION: The mean CRF values of patients with VKC were lower than those of controls. According to the results of our study, one can conclude that corneal biomechanical property, CRF, could be different in VKC patients compared to normals.
