Abstract
AIM: To observe causes of Corneal foreign body (CFB) in relation to a particular occupation in local population. METHODS:Prospective,hospital-based study at Ophthalmology department of a tertiary care unit from May 2019 to May 2020. Proper history regarding the occupation,activity at time of injury and slit lamp evaluation were documented. RESULTS:Out of 560 CFB patients,metal work industry was responsible for 45% cases,construction industry 32%,carpentry 7%,house wives 3%,13% in other sectors.55% were engaged in metal grinding,15% in welding,10% cement work,6% wood cutting,14% miscellaneous.85% were superficial CFB. CONCLUSION: CFB occurs in wide range of occupations.Besides seeking ophthalmological timely advise, self precautionary measures in any field of work is an absolute necessity as it is a preventable and avoidable cause of blindness.
