Abstract
Penetrating keratoplasty in children is a highly challenging and demanding procedure associated with a high risk of graft failure, post op complications including glaucoma or failure of amblyopia therapy in clear grafts. The aim of our study was to determine the incidence and risk factors for glaucoma post keratoplasty (full thickness and partial thickness) in pediatric population. A retrospective study was conducted where in the patients in the age group 1-18 years who were underwent PKP, TPK and DALK were analysed for the risk factors and incidence of glaucoma was identified. 19 PKP, 6 TPKs and 34 DALK were carried out from January 2017 to December 2019 in our institute in the selected age group. Steroid responder and anatomical changes in the angle of anterior chamber post surgery were the major etiological factors for glaucoma. The incidence of glaucoma was found to be 42.85%, post keratoplasty. Additional procedures during PKP increase the risk of postoperative glaucoma.
