Abstract
Purpose- To report a new type of seasonal keratoconjunctivitis with simple treatment of choice.
Method- 40 patients presented with redness & foreign body sensation.Slit-lamp examination showed grayish-white,raised,round, multiple, superficial corneal lesions suggestive of Microsporidial keratoconjunctivitis.Cases were randomized into 4 groups.Group 1 treated with topical ciprofloxacin & lubricant.Group 2, group 3 & group 4 treated with debridement, topical fluorometholone & oral albendazole respectively along with topical ciprofloxacin and lubricant.
Results- Exposure to soil in 12 & pond water in 16 cases was present.28 cases presented during rainy season.Complete resolution within 1 week was seen in debridement group.
Conclusion- Incidence is much more during rainy season, about which an ophthalmologist must be aware of.Predisposing factors include soil & pond water exposure in our region.Debridement with topical antibiotic & lubricant is a simple but an effective treatment.
