Abstract
The move to phacoemulsification is fraught with many complications. A new design of a side angled chopper and Forward angled dialer to improve the safety profile and increase the efficacy and efficiency of phacoemulsification was accepted amongst the top innovations of 2019 at AIOC. We have now studied the complication rates with the redesigned chopper and dialer in residents and also with the surgical outcomes of experienced phaco surgeons and young surgeons making a transition to phacoemulsification. Comparative data indicate a reduction in the complication rate and phaco times in surgeries done by Residents and helped in transition from divide and conquer to stop and chop and phaco chop for both residents and young surgeons with limited experience. There was also a reduction in phaco times in the hands of experienced surgeons. The new design of Chopper and Dialler have significantly reduced the complication rates and smoothened the transition to phaco for trainee surgeons.
