Abstract
A prospective, comparative, interventional study of 246 eyes randomized to phacoemulsification (Phaco) and MSICS group was conducted. A detailed pre and post-operative examination carried out and quality of life assessed via IND VFQ-33 at 1 week, 1 month and 2 months. Significant difference between 2 groups in terms of quality of life scores at 7th day, with median score being highest (87) in MSICS vs Phaco (74). QoL scores were comparable at 1 & 2 months. Median score at 1 month was 57 in both groups and 43 at 2 months. UCVA also compared and phaco had 74% eyes with 6/18 or better UCVA vs 58.5% in MSICS at 1st day. At 7th day, phaco had all eyes with 6/18 or better BCVA vs 87% in MSICS. BCVA of 6/18 or better was comparable between both techniques at 1 month. Quality of Life was similar in post-operative patients of MSICS and Phaco especially after 1 & 2 months along with comparable visual outcome at 1 month.
