Abstract
Objectives:To determine the incidence, risk factors & treatment outcomes of Type 1 Retinopathy of Prematurity(ROP) at a tertiary care center in Southern India.
Methods: A prospective, longitudinal study was conducted in 2019 & 263 neonates with birth weight(BW)≤2000gm/gestation age(GA)≤34wk/neonates with recommended risk factors were screened for ROP.
Results: Any stage ROP occurred in 24.3% neonates of which 28 eyes of 15 neonates(5.7%) progressed to Type 1 ROP. Five eyes with Type 1 ROP including 4 eyes with APROP were treated with intravitreal anti-VEGF & 23 eyes by laser. Four eyes treated with anti-VEGF injection eventually required laser. All eyes with Type 1 ROP showed full regression. By univariate analysis, the risk factors for Type 1 ROP were maternal hypertension, low BW& GA, sepsis, patent ductus arteriosus,O2 supplementation>7days & blood transfusions.
Conclusions:The incidence of Type 1 ROP was low in our cohort with recognizable risk factors & full regression on treatment.
