Abstract
Solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) is an uncommon spindle cell neoplasm of fibroblastic origin, first described as a tumour of the pleura and now well established at extrapleural sites. Involvement of the orbit is rare. Focal myxoid change is a well-recognized feature of SFT but not many cases with predominantly myxoid examples of SFT have been reported. Myxoid SFT has indolent clinical course and a good prognosis, so it is important to make a diagnosis because of its morphological similarities to myxoid spindle cell neoplasms that have different prognoses and treatment. We describe one such case of SFT in a 25-year-old male in which the stromal myxoid change affected more than 50% of the tumor examined, thus obscuring typical diagnostic features.
