Abstract
To study the surgical outcomes of infantile exotropia presenting to a tertiary eye care centre of north India.
The clinical records of patients with infantile exotropia (XT) of >25∆ operated from 2010 to 2015 were reviewed.Surgical failures was taken as recurrence of >10∆ or overcorrection of >5∆.A total of31cases were included. The mean age of onset was8.06 months. The mean age at presentation was 46.12months.The median preoperative angle of deviation was 43.38 PD XT.Median surgical age was 48 months. At6months post-operative follow up70.97%had successful outcome.Residual exotropia was noted in 16.13 %&recurrence of deviation was recorded in12.9% of cases.None of the children developed consecutive esotropia.Bi-fixation was achieved in 8 children. Conclusions:Age at surgery did not affect the surgical outcomes in children with infantile exotropia. Successful outcomes can be achieved when surgery is performed after stability of deviation after1year of age.
