AIM:To describe the morphology and surgical outcomes of a case series of Diabetic macular tractional retinal detachment (TRD) complicated with macular hole METHODS:Three patients diagnosed with Macular TRD complicated by macular hole were retrospectively studied. A 25G vitrectomy,inverted ILM flap and silicone oil tamponade was done by a single surgeon and the outcomes analyzed RESULTS: All the three patients were male, two aged 42 and one aged 62 with an average duration of 8 months. There was firm dense glial condensation with traction over the arcades in 2 and peripapillary traction in 1. Macular hole closed in 2 patients with a single surgery. A maximal vision improvement was noted 1-month post operatively and remained stable 3 months after oil removal CONCLUSION: Diabetic Macular TRDs are a common presentation but Macular hole with TRDs is rare posing a surgical challenge.A long-term tamponade and chronicity of macular hole has anatomical and functional prognosticating values.
