Abstract
AIMS
• Evaluating incidence of NTG
• Study MRI changes in brain in NTG
• Compare visual field changes to MRI changes
PROCEDUR
60 patients of age 50-70 years with NTG studied in glaucoma clinic of local medical college for 5yrs. Visual acuity, tension, provocative tests & fundus evaluated.
MRI done & ischemic changes in brain evaluated. Field analysis done using Humphrey Visual Field analyzer in two Group of patients with ischemic & non-ischemic changes. Control group comprise of non-glaucomatous individuals, undergoing field analysis and MRI, if required.
RESULTS
Ischemic changes in MRI found in 28 out of 60 patients along with depression in inferior pericentral visual field rest of parameters revealed no significant difference in all three groups.
CONCLUSION
MRI revealed that cerebral small vessel ischemia is common in patients of NTG which may be responsible for optic nerve damage, resulting into visual field defects. This may be used for early diagnosis & methodical follow up.
