Abstract

Increasing demand for refractive surgery combined with the widespread availability of sensitive screening modalities (e.g. corneal tomography ) has resulted in larger number of patients being diagnosed with keratoconus or other corneal ectatic disorders. Often these patients present to and are managed by comprehensive ophthalmologists, with corneal cross linking (CXL) being advised . As the surgical procedure is not technically challenging , the threshold for prescribing the treatment is low and potential for complications / unsatisfactory outcomes often underestimated. The emphasis of this course will therefore be ,not on dealing with the advanced protocols of cross linking which are available only on high end machines and available to a select few, but on the standard protocols or their modifications which can be safely incorporated by most practitioners. The approach will be case based, supported by relevant literature with ample time for audience interaction.
