Abstract
Aim: To evaluate the functional and cosmetic outcome of the modified bifid periosteal strip technique for reconstruction of defects of the lateral canthus. Methods: Between September 2016-January 2019, we performed this technique in six patients (4 male, 2 female), age range 46-75 years, with lateral canthal defect following excision of periocular mass lesions. In this technique, a periosteal flap was raised from the superolateral orbital rim, divided into two strips, and attached to the residual tarsus followed by the reconstruction of anterior lamella with a post-auricular skin graft. Results: All patients were evaluated at a 3-month interval for at least one year to look for functional and cosmetic outcome. There were no complications like epiphora, ocular irritation, ectropion, lower lid sagging, or lateral canthal deformity in any patient. Conclusion: This technique is superior, easy to perform, and an efficient alternative for the reconstruction of lateral canthal defects.
