Abstract
AIM:To evaluate type of dry eye on long term use of digital display DEVICE (DDD)i.e computers & smartphones.
METHOD:Observational study done on 55 eyes of 55 people working on DDD for >8hr/day v/s control group working for <1hr/day from,Aug 2019 to Jan 2020 in age group of 25-40 yr.The cases were examined at 9.00am & 5.00pm on same day. INVESTIGATIONS:Schirmer test, Tear break up time(TBUT)& Ocular surface disease index(OSDI) OBSERVATION:In study group for Schirmer test 90% showed morning & evening test to be normal i.e>16mm & 10% being around 15+/-2mm with slightly decreased evening values. Decreased evening TBUT i.e 5+/-1 sec in about 76% users with morning values being normal (10+/-1 sec) was seen .The OSDI score was 24+/-3 in 66% users & rest being normal. In control ,all investigations were normal.
CONCLUSION:Long term DDD use did not change the schirmer test values significantly but OSDI score indicates moderate dry eye & significant changes in TBUT signifies EVAPORATIVE DRY EYE.
