Abstract
Purpose: To compare Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) and Higher Order Aberrations (HOA) in eyes with trifocal (MFIOL) versus monofocal (MNIOL) IOL.
Methods: A prospective study where subjects implanted with TFIOL (Acrysof IQ PanOptix) and MNIOL, aged between 40 -75 years, BCVA 0.2logMAR or better were included. Subjects with ocular pathologies, complications were excluded. At 1 month follow up, internal HOA and MTF were obtained using aberrometer.
Results: 87 and 20 eyes were implanted with MFIOL and MNIOL respectively. UDVA were similar (Chi square, P=0.19) however UCNVA and UCIVA were significantly different among two IOLs (P<0.001). Internal HOA and MTF at spatial frequencies (5-30 CPD) were similar with both the IOLs (Two sample t test, P>0.05).
Conclusions: We noted similar internal HOA and MTF in eyes with MFIOL and MNIOL. This could be attributed to Enlighten Optical technology used by the IOL which redirects the majority of light from intermediate to far distance.
