Abstract
herpes simplex or varicella zoster virus. A 14 year old boy, presented with diminished
vision in the left eye since 3 days. He gave history of contracting chicken pox 3 weeks
back. Ocular examination revealed anterior uveitis, vitritis and peripheral retinal
necrosis. Patient was started on intravenous acyclovir injection 500mg TDS. Patient
developed acyclovir induced crystalline nephropathy. Systemic anti-viral was stopped
and patient was given concomitant intravitreal ganciclovir (2mg/0.1ml) and
dexamethasone (4mg/0.1ml) along with systemic steroids. Combination of intravitreal
and systemic anti-viral allowed for improved functional and visual outcomes.
