Abstract
Methodology-Retrospective data was assessed from hospital records over October 2019 to March 2020. All patients were initially screened and then referred to the retina clinic for evaluation. Demographic data and diagnoses after detailed fundus examination were collected and analysed.
Result-Of the 7161 who attended the outpatient department, 222(3.1%) were registered in the retina clinic. 59.4% of the patients were ≥50 years of age and 65.7% were males. The most common retinal diseases demanding retina clinic reference were diabetic retinopathy (29.2%) and retinal detachment (19.3%). Retinal vein occlusion accounted for 12.6% of retinal diseases whereas ARMD represented 6.3%.
Conclusion-Though the incidence of retinal diseases in the adult population appear low, the tremendous impact of increasing retinal blindness due to diabetic retinopathy is alarming and deems early intervention.
