Abstract

Case report-19 year female presented with blurring of vision, headache. Visual acuity OD 6/12, OS 6/6. Anterior segment OD- Posterior Sub Capsular cataract, Fundus OD- midperipheral bone spicule-shaped pigment deposits, pale optic disc, narrowed arteriole surrounding the area of preserved photoreceptors in the macula, OD- concentric narrowing of the visual field. Anterior segment, Fundus OS- Normal. No similar family history, no history of trauma or repeated pain with redness in eye.

In our patient RP was strictly unilateral which was an incidental finding. There are no studies showing benefit of vitamin A in unilateral RP. Therefore, we did not recommend this treatment to our patient. Regular 3 monthly follow up, Cataract surgery with implantation of IOL is advised.

Discussion- RP is typically bilateral and symmetric. Unilateral RP is a rare condition. We must rule out inflammatory, traumatic, toxic, and cancer associated retinopathy that can present with retinal pigmentary changes.
