Abstract

Though Glued intraocular lens and other suture less methods of fixation are commonly done, sutured scleral fixation of intraocular lens remains the Gold standard.

Our aim is to shorten the surgical time with a modification in suturing technique.

After the conjunctival and scleral flaps 180 degrees apart, the straight needle in the 10-0 prolene, passed under the scleral flaps, through the scleral bed, is docked in the 26G needle in the main wound. After the needle is brought from the main wound and passed twice through the eyelet of the intraocular lens it’s docked in the 26G needle passed under the same scleral flap and the suture tied there. Similar steps on the other side.

In our study of 25 cases, the surgical time with the above technique is shortened by average of 13.5 minutes compared to the standard scleral fixation steps by the same surgeon.

A simple modification helps in reducing the surgical time, in turn will reduce the surgical trauma and help in improving the results.
