FP2268 : UNILATERAL POSITIONAL PROPTOSIS AS A FORM OF ORBITAL VARICES

Abstract
A male child of 10 yrs of age came to the OPD with the complaints of protrusion of left eyeball on lying especially in the morning.No other significant complains.Examination–vision–BE-6/6, BE ocular examination–WNL,BE fundus–WNL.The proptosis manifested on doing valsalva and on head down position.The eyeball returns to normal position on applying pressure.Orbital varices on the posterior portion of the left globe was identified on Contrast CT brain and orbit. No treatment was given and the condition was explained to the patient.Discussion–Orbital varices are venous malformations of the orbit caused by vascular dysgenesis.It is congenital,seen in all age group, usually diagnosed between 10-30 yrs of age.Enophthalmos due to orbital fat atrophy is also a presentation in chronic cases.Small lesions do not usually require treatment.Recurrent thrombosis, severe proptosis, pain, or optic nerve compression are indications for intervention. Diagnosed usually on CT, MRI or color Doppler.
