Abstract
Results: 55 eyes of 53 consecutive RB patients were managed by secondary Ru106 brachytherapy. ICRB Groups were E (10, 18%), D (20, 36%). C (1.8%) and B (6, 10%). Age at the treatment was 28.8+18.9m (range, 0-72). Mean tumor height was 4.7+0.9 mm (range, 3-6), and the mean tumor apex dose was 4500 cGy. There was excellent response in 40 eyes (72%), modest response in 10 (18%) and poor response in 5 (9%); 11 (20%) eyes had tumor recurrence needing focal therapy. Enucleation was done in 14 eyes and the most common cause was unresolving vitreous hemorrhage secondary to necrotic tumor (50%). Secondary Ru106 brachytherapy is an excellent option for eye salvage for recurrent or refractory RB.
