Abstract
A 28 year old male patient presented with a painless slowly growing whitish mass over the temporal limbus of the left eye for the past 4-5 years. The dimension of the mass was 3 x 3 x 2 mm and it was extending from 2:30 o’clock to 3:30 o’clock position. The margins of the mass were smooth and well defined and there was no overlying keratinization. Rest of the ocular examination was within normal limits. An excision biopsy under local anaesthesia was performed. Histopathological analysis showed squamous metaplasia of the epithelium, and stroma showed fibrocollagenous tissue with scattered vascular channels, spindle cells, mixed with myxoid component. The findings were suggestive of conjunctival stromal tumor. There was no recurrence at 6 months of follow up. Conjuctival stromal tumor (COST) is a rare benign conjunctival neoplasm. The prognosis is excellent and they rarely show recurrence. It is important to distinguish COST from ocular surface squamous neoplasia.
