Abstract
Purpose- To evaluate the prognostic value of ocular trauma score (OTS) in patients with retained intra ocular foreign body(IOFB).
Methods-We retrospectively analysed medical records from Jan 2006 to Dec 2017 and details of demography, injury, surgeries, OTS category and visual acuity(VA), ocular status at baseline and final visit were noted. The final VAs of every OTS category were compared with the OTS study group predictions.
Results- The study included 163 eyes (age 34.01±10.6 yr, males 96.3%), followed up for 24.4±19.4 months. Final visual acuity was 1.59±1.00, 1.10±0.83, 0.48±0.58 and 0.09 ± 0.1 in OTS 1,2,3,4 categories respectively. Final VA (r=0.438) and anatomic success (r=0.341) showed significant (p<0.01) positive whereas phthisis (r=0.313), endophthalmitis (r=0.359) showed significant (p<0.01) negative correlation with the OTS. Conclusion- OTS can help in predicting the anatomic and visual outcomes in IOFB patients.
