Abstract

Aim: To study safety and efficacy of 1mg intracameral TA in controlling postop ocular inflammation in pediatric cataract surgery. Methods: 24 consecutive patients with bilateral congenital cataract were included in this prospective study. After surgery, one eye of each pts were injected with 1 mg/0.1 ml TA into the anterior chamber (AC) [Group A], but the other eye was not [Group B]. Postop, pt. received topical prednisolone acetate 1% 6 -12 times per day and tapered over 6-8 weeks. AC cells & flare, IOP were measured on days 1, 7 and 30 postop. Results: The mean age at surgery was 36.15 month (14 M & 10 F). AC cell/flare was significantly less in group A compared to group B (2.12 ± 1.1 vs 3.41±o.9). In group B, 3 eyes had post. synechiae, 2 eyes had optic capture and 4 eyes had visual axis obscuration while in group A, none of the eyes had such complications. Conclusion: Pediatric eyes receiving intracameral TA had significantly less AC inflammation and complications related to it.
