Abstract
Aim: To find alteration in status of anterior chamber by scleral buckling surgery (SBS) to influence refractive error (RE) in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).
Methods: 40 RRD patients, aged 18-65 years were enrolled for SBS. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), RE, anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS OCT) parameters, axial length (AL), anterior chamber depth (ACD), lens thickness (LT) were measured before and after SBS.
Results: Following surgery, the BCVA (p<0.001) improved while RE shifted towards myopia (p<0.001). The LT (p=0.293) and AL (p<0.001) increased while ACD (p<0.001) and AS OCT parameters including angle opening distance (AOD)500 (p=0.129), AOD750 (p<0.004), trabecular iris surface area (TISA) 500 (p=0.084) and TISA750 (p=0.025) reduced. Conclusion: Post surgery, the myopic shift was caused due to elongation of eye ball, increased lens thickness, forward movement of lens iris diaphragm.
