Abstract
Glaucoma is a common complication of uveitis, with a varied pathogenesis, warranting a multi-modality approach. Here we present a retrospective clinical profiling of uveitis patients above 18 years of age with raised intra-ocular pressure (IOP) who presented between Jan 2015-Dec 2019 in a south-Indian tertiary care hospital. 12% of patients with uveitis had raised IOP, Incidence being higher among those with anterior uveitis (72.5%), and a viral etiology (19.6%). IOP ranged between 30 and 40 mm Hg in majority(35%). 82.4% had open angles, 27.5% of whom were found to be steroid responders, more so with topical steroids(62.7%). 33% of patients progressed to glaucoma. In 78.4%, IOP was under control by medical management. 9.8% patients required glaucoma surgery. We hereby emphasize on glaucoma evaluation in uveitic patients at the earliest and conclude that with the newer modalities of diagnostics and treatment, such a blinding complication can be well managed.
