Abstract
Aim – To report a case of recurrent pterygium in patient with Keloid.
Synopsis- Keloid is an abnormal wound healing response to skin trauma. A 28 year old male presented with recurrent pterygium in right eye and twice he had undergone Pterygium surgery elsewhere 2 years ago. So we treated his recurrent pterygium by pterygium excision with simple limbal epithelial transplantation. Within a span of 6 years, he had 3 episodes of recurrences and underwent four times recurrent pterygium surgery. As there was temporal active pterygium in other eye, we treated with topical interferon, 5- fluorouracil. Response was noted as gross reduction in size and vascularity.
Conclusion- Avoid pterygium surgery in patients with keloidal tendency and look for keloid in recurrent pterygium cases inspite of appropriate treatment. Topical immunomodulator therapy gives promising results in such difficult case.
