Abstract
Aim: To compare visual and topographic outcomes of accelerated cross linking (ACXL) in pediatric keratoconus with and without eye rubbing. Method: 30 eyes of 30 pediatric pts (0-20 years) clinically and topographically diagnosed as KC who underwent ACXL with minimum follow up of 6 mths were included. Pts were divided into Group1: Eye rubbing /allergy & Group2: No eye rubbing /allergy. Pts with systemic anomalies like Downs syndrome were part of group 1. Results: Mean Kmax at presentation was 58.6 ± 5.5 D. There was progressive decrease in Kmax (p= 0.032) and increase in densitometry (p= 0.0002) value post op in both groups. The overall BCVA was preserved in all patients of both groups. The change in refractive and topographic outcomes showed no statistical difference between both groups. Conclusion: The corneas of patients who rubbed their eyes behaved in a similar manner and had comparable visual and topographical stability after cross linking in comparison to non-eye rubbing group
