Abstract

Introduction:

Ocular chemical injuries are an Ophthalmic emergency due to their potential to cause loss of visual acuity and blindness which is often closely related to the severity of the initial insult and is influenced by the immediate management delivered.

Materials and Methods:

Study Type: Cross-sectional study Time: One year, Feb 2017-Feb 2018.

The study participants were medical interns who had completed two weeks of Ophthalmology rotation.

Sample size was 150.

Method: Pretested questionnaire regarding danger signs in ocular chemical injuries,first level care and referral.

Data analysed using SPSS software.

Results: Shown as tables and charts

Conclusion:It is thus the need of the hour that we train medical interns to handle ocular chemical injuries as they might be the first level of contact that patients have before they are referred, and if appropriate management is not administered in the first golden minutes, we may have lost an opportunity in preventing blindness.
