Abstract
AIM: To compare subfoveal choroidal thickness in diabetic retinopathy patients with or without macular oedema.
METHOD: In this cross-sectional study, all diabetic patients coming to ophthalmic OPD were included. All eyes underwent comprehensive and standardised ophthalmic examination & subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) was measured using high definition enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography using Cirrus HD OCT Model 500.
RESULT: Total 60 eyes were included and divided into two tiers of 46 eyes with diabetic retinopathy (DR) without diabetic macular oedema (DME) and 14 eyes with DR with DME. Mean SFCT of both the groups were calculated & student t-test were applied. Statistically significant decrease (p<0.001) in SFCT in patient with DR with DME was found as compared with DR without DME. CONCLUSION: SFCT is a dynamic parameter that is considerably affected in DME patients & subfoveal choroid is thicker in eyes without DME than in those with DME.
