Abstract
Ocular trauma is an important arena with which every ophthalmologist should be well versed. This instruction course aims at covering the management of common ocular injuries. Ocular injury is classified according to Birmingham eye and trauma terminology system and ocular trauma society score is used for prognostication of cases. Chemical injuries have a devastating outcome if not treated appropriately in time. Open globe injury requires meticulous surgical closure to maintain the integrity of the globe and prevent phthisis. Vitreous hemorrhage, intraocular foreign body, and retinal detachment are common posterior segment manifestations that require urgent surgical intervention. Lid laceration requires proper surgical repair for good aesthetic outcomes. Post-traumatic glaucoma if not treated in time often leads to blindness. Traumatic optic neuropathy usually presents at a time when the golden period for treatment has already elapsed leading to a dilemma–whether to treat or to observe.
