Abstract

OBJECTIVE – The primary objective of this course is to equip the attendees with a detailed knowledge of the plethora of complications that can occur during various step of a seemingly simple case and their management.

METHODS – A video based course will demonstrate various complications that could occur at various steps during LASIK and SMILE. Accidental loss of suction, during docking, in LASIK or SMILE would be demonstrated and, its management, at different stages would be demonstrated.Certain complications specific to SMILE, like a remnant lenticule within the SMILE pocket, its refractive implications and management will be shown.

Management of refractive regression post-SMILE, will be discussed using the circle software, converting a SMILE cap into a flap.

RESULTS – All complications were easily managed, with good post-operative vision.

CONCLUSIONS – Most of the complications can be dealt with, managed effectively, and good vision restored, provided the surgeon proceeds with care.
