Abstract

Medical emergencies can occur anywhere. Even-though, life threatening Medical emergencies are rare in Eye centres, Ophthalmologists have to deal with emergencies in OPD, Wards and Operation Theatres. This is due to the high number of elderly patients with various comorbidities and high risk status. Unfortunately many centres are under equipped and not prepared to handle them. Lack of awareness, time, training, financial constraints, and low prioritization can lead to severe morbidity, death and crisis to the practice. This video and case studies based IC will focus on, how to assess and identify sinking patients, how to make the centre prepared to handle emergency situations, establish NABH standards to have appropriate infrastructure for emergency management, training the staff in code blue and prepare the eye centres to face the crisis. providing acute care will enhance patient satisfaction, improve patient safety, improve outcomes and decrease medico legal risk.
